Who we are

We're Ryan and Eveline, a husband-and-wife team based in Ottawa, Canada.

Steady Scale began when we couldn't find a weight tracker that reflected the way we think about measurements and health. We wanted something that explained what the scale was actually telling us, respected our privacy, and stayed grounded in evidence rather than engagement.

We built Steady Scale as a small, independent project with a simple goal: help people better understand their weight, whether their goal is to lose, gain, or simply maintain it.

Experimental physicist

Ryan designed and built Steady Scale, from the statistical model and data analysis to the user interface and underlying code.

He completed a PhD in physics and now works in nanotechnology, where he combines experimental science, software development, and data analysis to build tools for atomic-scale research. Steady Scale grew from his interest in applying the same careful approach to measurement and interpretation to everyday health tracking.

The project began by analyzing his own weight data in Python and gradually evolved into the app it is today.

Kinesiologist

Eveline helped shape Steady Scale's scientific direction and user experience.

She completed her PhD in kinesiology and has more than a decade of experience in health, fitness, and exercise science. Her perspective helped ensure the app reflects what we know about body weight, behaviour, and long-term health rather than common assumptions about dieting.

She also helped shape the app's body-neutral language and its support for weight loss, weight gain, and maintenance.
